a most excellent race.....my 2nd time running this 10k race.
it was hot as blue blazes out there.
the heat was comparable to the big 10 miler last summer.
{a few days earlier i tried running the route while k and v were in camp. bad choice, ended up only doing 4.5 miles, in 90 degree heat that day}
race day was hot, but not quite AS hot as earlier in the week.
still hot though and humid too. hot enough to sweat while you wait. at the 9 a.m. start it was at least low 80's and the sun beating down.
the race was tough as my legs were heavy due to heat, but i made it, even with a few tiny walks (which i hate doing and never really do, it took all my courage to actually walk a bit rather than run.....but i figured i should so i didn't die from heat exhaustion or loss of breath) and walk thrus at the water stops...(which i hate to do as well...the walking part, not the drinking part).
and despite the heat and tired legs and sweat, i was able to better my 10k race time with a new race pr of 58:06!!
there i am nearing the end of the first lap....at this point i was so jealous of the 5kers......it was their finish line.....i had to go 1 more round.

crossing the finish.....i could not believe it when the clock was on "58".....i was drowning in sweat, dying of thirst, and flat out tired.......i really pushed it as fast as i could to cross that mat.

one hot mess!

chugged that water like it was going out of style!

(my legs need some serious color too them...sheesh they look pale...sorry, i digress....)
so glad to have made it under an hour.....and to have bettered my racing time in a month. i have come a long way since last springs first 10k race......shaved about 5 minutes off that baby! and this was only my 4th 10k race!
i know i could do even better, as i have done it in even less time on training runs. whee! something more to work toward!
good race day! thanks for coming mama!

Congratulations - that is quite an accomplishment in such heat!
And you look very good for being so sweaty and tired.
