today i walked.

today i walked. i made it a part of my training plan this go round. i often forget about walking anymore. i used to do it all the time as my form of exercise.

in my training last year, all i did was run, with little cross training in there too, but mostly running. my thoughts in my head were half marathon = running and getting all that distance in....which is true, but you can't do it each day. i forgot about walking, it was all run run run. walking is a great way to get a workout in, 20 to 30 minutes a day is fine and it gets your heart pumping. which is a good thing! i didn't go fast, just took it at my speed that i felt comfortable with. when i got up today my legs were pretty stiff and achy, probably from all the hard running i did this week. i felt like not doing anything, but i remembered, walking is a good remedy to those aches. and it did help a lot! (which is also why it's good to walk rather than lay around after a big race)

now that i am back, my legs feel so much better! it's good to do at least 20 to 30 minutes a day of some form of continuous exercise, to get your blood flowing, and your heart pumping. and walking is a great way to go. it helps you clear your mind, sort out thoughts, plan your day (or review it, depending when you go), and if you go with a friend, a time to catch up and chat! i enjoyed my walk today, it was a crisp, fall like morning. i had on a sweatshirt, but by the end i was quite hot, so i know my walk did good!

i came home, did a little strengthening (to tone and build muscle). i just did some short ab work, and weights. nothing too hard, as i have a long run this weekend to gear up for.

today i walked. i am going to try to keep it up during my training, along with yoga, which i just started to do, and kinda enjoy! those 2 things will help keep me in tune for this next half and in shape in general.

all this will help me in my quest of my 2nd half marathon and in general to lead a healthier lifestyle (something i have really been trying to focus on the last 7 months).

today i walked and it was lovely! :)

I love that you walked and that you wrote about it. I have not done much running this summer and I sometimes forget that walking counts as exercise. I walked with a friend last night for over an hour and it was delightful. I hope you are doing well. Can't wait to hear about your next half.
