twice in my life i have run 13.1 miles. at my first half marathon in disney, and a recent training run. i have not run further than that.
until today!
today was the last big long run before the big event, and i had planned to do 13.1 (why do plain 13 when you can add a .1 and say "oh, i ran a half today!"), or else if i felt yucky after my bad week of not much running, to aim toward 12.
then i got the thought in my head when planning my route, aim for 14, and make 13 seem easy! not sure that mantra will work, but it might! it'd be a good thought to have when running a half and saying, i can do this, i have run 14. good mantra when and if you hit the wall! so i decided i would try it, so long as i felt ok. and i did. of course after i decided it officially in my run, i got a bit run down, i pushed on though.
i did take 2 very short walks, one for gu and water, and one just as i turned around to head back.
my legs felt it. i think at one point i didn't even feel them. but i was proud when i was done!
i can now say i ran 14 1/2 miles! i am now sore, and tired. and hungry!!!!
i got a big old blister to prove it too!
and i have to say, i freaking love my lulu lemon shorts. they may be expensive but they are my favorites. not once did i have one issue and need to pull them down, etc. didn't even know they were there! my other shorts of a popular sportsline aren't as accomodating! love lulu!
final time was 2:25:47. and yeah, that was 25 minutes faster than my disney half marathon....granted there weren't photo op's but still, cheers for a pdr! (personal distance record)
