i think brother might be hooked.
it took little convincing to get him to run another local 5k.
speedy boy heading to the finish line. he was so fast the cheerleaders missed his first lap!
last saturday, november 3, we both ran a local 5k in our hometown. this was my first race ever, although it was at a different location, and under a different name. i also ran that race in 2009 and 2010. now it is in a new location (same city), different name, but it is still small in attendance, which means bigger opportunity to score some bling! and we got ourselves some bling!
first lap down, and all smiles, but really, i was trying to keep that damn headband out of my eyes!
it was brother's second 5k race, and he yet again placed. last time he came in 2nd in his age group. this time he came in 1st! woohoo! not only that, but he pr'd (personal record) his time by nearly 3 minutes. he is a fast one, that guy! (i think he is spoiled. 2 races, 2 placements!)! it's fun to have a running/race buddy, even if he is way fast. i am proud of him!
catching his breath. i was still running.
i decided i was going to try and get something blingy out of this race! i am not as fast as brother, but i can do something that challenges me. i did not pr, but i came close! after taking off at a decent clip (for me), i tried to maintain a faster than normal pace (for me), and kept telling myself, it's only 3 miles, you can rest and breathe later! there was a small "hill" (anything inclined upward is a hill to me!), which we ran twice. we ran the whole route twice. once i got to mile two, i started to book it. i knew this one girl was going to win it, and after staring ahead of me, i realized the least i could do was an age group placement. i passed one lady (older than me) in mile one. in mile 2 i noticed 2 girls ahead of me, running neck and neck with each other. it was then that i booked it, and passed them both, putting me 2nd overall. i was proud of myself, the 2nd girl to cross the finish line. bling goal accomplished! thank goodness for small races; you can do fun things at them, like get a trophy!
booking it to the finish line!
i thought i was going to throw up.
my finish time: 26:42
brother's finish time: 23:07 (sick!!)
we got us some hardware!!! 2nd place overall female, and 1st place 20 - 29 age group male! holla!
i freaking love running and racing!
special thanks to our mama, aunt, and cousin, for braving the cold and being our cheerleaders!
heap big thanks ya'll!

Wow Maggie! That's a GREAT time! You continue to inspire me. I've taken too much time off...I need to get running again. BTW....love the sky in the background of your pics. Did it storm afterwards?
Hi Heather! That sky was insane, wasn't it? I didn't even notice til looking at the photos. I think it may have rained some, it was a wierd day, but nothing major! Thanks for all the comments!
